I saw a documentary sometime this year, about how companies use 'sales people' to pose as 'users' of the product.

So basically these 'sales' people will deliberately hang around parks, bus stops, etc, in order to strike a conversation about the product (innocently, of course), and then recommending the product.

This is supposed to be a word of mouth marketing method that a lot of big companies use. The logic is that: you're more likely to trust a product that has been recommended by someone (in what you thought was an innocent conversation); but it's actually a pitch; an advertisement....

There's obviously ethical issues here...in that where does advertising stop, and where do genuine conversations, and genuine recommendations begin...or are we just living in one big advertisment...

Good luck with your assignment!
